Each quarter we count what newsrooms across the country reported about school boards: the most-covered topics, the issues rising fastest, and the states where coverage concentrated. The first edition covers Q1 2027 and comes out in April 2027.

How it's made

• Built from the stories we publish, each tagged by topic and place and linked to the original reporting.
• We count events, not articles: when several outlets report the same story, it counts once.
• Topics are compared by their share of the quarter's coverage, so a busy quarter doesn't make everything look like it grew.
• It reflects what newsrooms covered, not everything school boards did. Sensitive stories are left out.
