For publishers

We send readers to your reporting.

SchoolBoardNews helps parents, educators and school board members find local reporting about public schools. We don't republish articles. Every story card and story page leads with a link to your article, and that link is the main thing we ask readers to do.

What we show

  • Your headline, outlet name, publication date and a link to your article.
  • For most stories, a short AI-assisted summary written in our own words, labeled as AI-assisted, and checked automatically so it never copies your wording. It points readers to your article as the authoritative source.
  • Your byline, and the preview image your page shares for link previews, shown with credit, never cropped, loaded from your own site and linking back to your article. You can have any photo removed (see below).
  • When your page offers a video for the story, your own player, played on our pages only when a reader presses play, credited to you. You can have any video removed (see below).

We never store or show the full text of your article, and our emails carry only headlines and links.

What we don't summarize

No summary is written, and your article text is never sent to an AI model, when:

  • your page's robots meta tag says nosnippet, noai or max-snippet:0;
  • your robots.txt blocks AI crawlers from your whole site (for example GPTBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended or CCBot), or you reserve text and data mining rights (a tdm-reservation tag or /.well-known/tdmrep.json). We check these before every summary and recheck every publisher weekly;
  • your structured data marks the article as not free to read (isAccessibleForFree: false);
  • you've asked us to opt your site out (below);
  • the story is sensitive, for example one that involves a student or alleges a crime.

Those stories still appear with the headline and a link to you.

The traffic we send

Links from SchoolBoardNews to your site carry utm_source=schoolboardnews and utm_medium set to referral from the website, email from our digests or app from our iPhone app, so you can see the readers we send you in your own analytics.

Opt out of summaries

Email publishers@schoolboardnews.app with your site's domain. Once we add it, no new summaries are written for your stories and the ones already written are removed. Your headlines and links stay unless you also ask us to remove them.

Corrections and takedowns

To correct or remove a story, use our corrections form; no account is needed. You can also email editors@schoolboardnews.app with the story link. An editor reviews every request.

Photos. When a story shows a photo, it's the preview image your own page offers to link previews. We show it from your site rather than keeping a copy, credit it, and link the story back to you. If you took the photo, publish it, or appear in it and want it gone, choose Request removal under the photo, or email editors@schoolboardnews.app with the story link. No account is needed. We replace it with our own artwork and don't put it back.

Videos. We find a story's video only where your page declares it: its structured data, social player card or Open Graph video, or a YouTube or Vimeo player in the article. We never copy or re-host it: it plays in your player, from your provider, and only once a reader presses play. To have one removed, choose Request removal under the video, or email editors@schoolboardnews.app with the story link. We take it down and don't put it back.

Outlet and reporter pages

Each outlet and each reporter with a byline has a page listing the stories of theirs we link to, with counts of the topics, places and school districts they cover. These describe what and where you cover, never how well: no ratings, no bias labels, and nothing about a reporter beyond the byline. Some pages also carry a short paragraph written with AI from those same headlines, topics and places (never from your articles), labeled as such. Outlets that opted out of summaries, or whose sites block AI crawlers, get no paragraph, and neither do their reporters.

To claim, correct or remove a page, use the link at the bottom of its about card. No account is needed, and an editor replies by email. A removed profile loses its about card and is kept out of search engines; your published stories stay listed, as they are on the rest of the site.
